To celebrate 2023 NAIDOC Week's theme, "For Our Elders", Forest Lake Shopping Centre, Hyperdome Shopping Centre, Nerang Mall and Robina Town Centre have embarked on an extraordinary art collaboration project with Uncle Allan Lena, Elder and Traditional Owner and Custodian of the Bundjalung and Yuggara Nations. This initiative brought together students from local schools and Early Learning Centres to create art pieces inspired by a local Dreamtime story shared by Uncle Allan.
The Dreamtime story is represented by a Songline created by Uncle Allan, which is then incorporated on the floor of each NAIDOC display at each shopping centre. Each display has a section of the Songline highlighted to represent the region in which the shopping centres stands.
Art pieces portrayed on the symbols, representing "male" and "female" where created by local students who took inspiration from the location of their shopping centres region and where the region is reflected along the song line mirrored by the Dreamtime story.
Follow the songline from centre to centre and see the Dreamtime story come to life through this collaboration of art. Simply look for the campfire artwork, a signal for the community to come closer and discover our NAIDOC Week celebration.
