The 2025 Reconciliation Week theme, "Bridging Now to Next," emphasises the journey of reconciliation as a continuous path, one that honours the past, acknowledges the present, and looks courageously to the future. The theme focuses on building respectful connections across time, between generations, communities and cultures. It encourages a sense of unity, and it highlights the importance of listening, learning and growing together. The phrase “Bridging Now to Next” is about continuity: taking meaningful steps today that help support and strengthen tomorrow.
This year’s theme is beautifully represented through an artwork by Bree Buttenshaw, a proud Kalkadoon woman whose roots and heritage are reflected in every part of her creative process. Bree is known for her ability to tell stories through visual language, using colour, shape and symbolism to express deep connections to Country, community and culture. The artwork for the National Reconciliation Week 2025 Bridging Now to next campaign celebrates the resilience of Australia’s native flora, renowned for their ability to endure harsh conditions, regenerate after fire, and flourish through adversity. These plants embody the strength and adaptability of people and communities, emphasising the importance of growth in the present while looking toward the future.
Reconciliation Week is held every year from May 27 to June 3, and it provides a moment in time for people to come together, celebrate shared stories and reflect on their own place in the broader Australian story. Whether through local events, school programs, community art, or individual reflection, it’s a time for people to engage in meaningful ways.
